Installing Passbook on Windows

When you install Passbook on Windows for the first time, Windows may show a security prompt called SmartScreen. This is completely normal for new applications and does not mean there is anything wrong with Passbook.

This prompt appears because Passbook is a new app and Windows hasn't yet built up enough download history to recognise it automatically. It will go away on its own over time as more people install Passbook.

What to do:

  1. Click "More info" (the blue link below the warning text)

  2. You'll now see the app name and publisher details

  3. Confirm the publisher shows PASSBOOK LABS

  4. Click "Run anyway"

The installation will proceed normally after this.

Which version should I download?

Passbook is available in two versions for Windows:

  • x64 — for most Windows PCs and laptops. If you're not sure, choose this one.

  • ARM64 — for Windows on ARM devices like Surface Pro X, Surface Pro 9 (5G), or Snapdragon-powered laptops.

After installation

Once installed, Passbook will:

  • Check for updates automatically every hour

  • Update silently in the background when a new version is available

  • Show a notification when an update is ready to install

You don't need to download the installer again for future updates.

Why does this prompt appear?

Windows SmartScreen builds a reputation score for every application based on how many people have downloaded and installed it. Brand new apps start with no reputation, which triggers the warning.

This is the same prompt that appears for any newly released Windows application, even from well-known companies. As more people install Passbook, Windows will recognise it as a trusted application and the prompt will stop appearing.

Passbook is signed with an Organisation Validated (OV) code signing certificate issued to Passbook Labs. This certificate verifies that the app genuinely comes from us and hasn't been tampered with.
